Most recent post: December 20, 2008: Potter County's First Fly Tier, Part 2

I started this website sometime in 1996, abandoned it, then resumed posting in the summer of 2006.  It is based, for the most part, on my old fishing logs and stream notes.  Now that I am  72 years old, I think it's about time that I get it done. In the process I have updated most of the original material and added more categories.  Also, in the intervening 2 years I have become aware of much material, some of which is loosely related to fly fishing and other material that is clearly fly fishing history.  To fly fish without some understanding of the long and quirky historical aspects of the sport has to be, in my opinion, a rather barren exercise.  Virtually every element of the sport has its "story" and as I encounter these, I like to share the tales  The headlined story this month is a perfect example of what I'm about..

It is my hope that the stream material may be of some use to the visiting fisherman; without a doubt it is more comprehensive than the usual travel bureau stuff.  It includes printable stream maps (someday I hope to replace these with scanned topos), some with access points, stream information, some personal experiences and current stocking information.  Also, some of my opinions on the state of fly fishing in this neck of the woods.

Articles specific to streams are accessed from Potter County Streams and are arranged by watershed.  To date, 15 streams have been up-dated or written.  I had hoped to complete the remainder by August 2007, but water levels and other demands on my time have delayed the project. Now, well into 2008, I should be able to complete the list sometime this summer. (Hah, hah!!!) General topics, how to's  and loosely related fishing topics are accessed from the blue side bar on left (Random Casts).

FFPC is not a fancy site: you will no doubt need to make use of your browser's navigation buttons.  Many have written to tell me how much they enjoyed reading about this remote fishery.  Thank you all.  Your comments are always welcome.

I have no intention of making this a commercial site...there is nothing for sale!  This is all original copyrighted material, and I would request that no use be made of it  without my permission.  Suitable links, of course, are more than welcome.

Headwaters streams are the start of all fishing; perhaps someday we'll meet on one of these mountain streams.
So, without further ado, welcome to an aspect of Potter County that only the bedraggled fly fishers see!
