Windows ME Setup Instructions

Setting up Dial-up Networking
  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Click on Control Panel
    • If only a few Control Panel options are listed, click on view all Control Panel options on left-hand side
  4. Double-click on Dial-Up Networking
  5. If there are any other icons than Make New Connection, do you use them? If you're don't or are unsure, assume not and delete them.
    • To delete: Right-click on the icon and choose delete, click Yes
  6. Double-Click on the Make New Connection icon
  7. In the Type a name for the computer you are dialing:box, type pennswoods
  8. Click Next
  9. In the Telephone number: box, type the local pennswoods.net modem dial-up number. Don't put anything in the area code box!
  10. Click Next
  11. Click Finish
  12. Right-Click on the pennswoods icon
  13. Click Properties
  14. Uncheck the Use Country code and Dialing Properties checkbox, which is about half-way down the screen
  15. Click on the Security tab
  16. Type in the user name and password in the appropriate boxes.
  17. Click on the Dialing tab
  18. Check the box beside This is the default Internet connection
  19. Check the circle beside Always dial my default connection
  20. Click OK
Configuring Internet Explorer
  1. Double-click on the Internet Explorer icon on the Desktop or in the Start menu
  2. When you're prompted to connect, click the Work Offline button
  3. Click on the Tools menu.
  4. Click on Internet Options
  5. In the home page box, type in http://www.pennswoods.net/
  6. Click Apply
  7. Click OK
  8. Close Internet Explorer

Configuring Outlook Express
  1. Double-click on the Outlook Express icon on the Desktop or in the Start menu
  2. If you're prompted to connect, click the Work Offline button, then click on the Hide button
  3. If you're asked for a Display Name:

    1. When asked for a display name, enter your real name. This is the name people will see when they receive email from you.
    2. Click Next
    3. In the Email address: box, type in the your email address in the form of username@pennswoods.net
    4. Click Next
    5. The screen will say My incoming mail server is a POP3 server
    6. In the Incoming mail server (POP3) name: box, type in mail.pennswoods.net
    7. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) name: box, type in mail.pennswoods.net
    8. Click Next
    9. In the Account name: box, type in your Pennswoods.net account name
    10. In the Password: box, type in your password
    11. Click Next
    12. Click Finish

  4. If the main Outlook Express screen appears:

    1. Click on Tools at the top of the screen
    2. Click on Accounts
    3. Click on the Mail tab
    4. If other accounts are present, do you use them? If not, or if you're not sure about the accounts listed here, it's probably safe to Remove them
    5. Click on the Add button
    6. Click Mail
    7. When asked for a display name, enter your real name. This is the name people will see when they receive email from you.
    8. Click Next
    9. In the Email address: box, type in the your email address in the form of username@pennswoods.net
    10. Click Next
    11. The screen will say My incoming mail server is a POP3 server
    12. In the Incoming mail server (POP3) name: box, type in mail.pennswoods.net
    13. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) name: box, type in mail.pennswoods.net
    14. Click Next
    15. In the Account name: box, type in your Pennswoods.net account name
    16. In the Password: box, type in your password
    17. Click Next
    18. Click Finish
    19. Click Close

  5. Close Outlook Express
