Windows ME Setup Instructions
Setting up Dial-up Networking
- Click on the Start button
- Click on Settings
- Click on Control Panel
- If only a few Control Panel options are
listed, click on view all Control Panel options on left-hand
side
- Double-click on Dial-Up Networking
- If there are any other icons than Make
New Connection, do you use them? If you're don't or are unsure,
assume not and delete them.
- To delete: Right-click on the icon and
choose delete, click Yes
- Double-Click on the Make New Connection
icon
- In the Type a name for the computer you are
dialing:box, type pennswoods
- Click Next
- In the Telephone number: box, type
the local pennswoods.net modem dial-up number. Don't put anything
in the area code box!
- Click Next
- Click Finish
- Right-Click on the pennswoods icon
- Click Properties
- Uncheck the Use Country code and Dialing Properties
checkbox, which is about half-way down the screen
- Click on the Security tab
- Type in the user name and password in the appropriate
boxes.
- Click on the Dialing tab
- Check the box beside This is the default Internet
connection
- Check the circle beside Always dial my default
connection
- Click OK
Configuring Internet Explorer
- Double-click on the Internet Explorer icon
on the Desktop or in the Start menu
- When you're prompted to connect, click the Work
Offline button
- Click on the Tools menu.
- Click on Internet Options
- In the home page box, type in http://www.pennswoods.net/
- Click Apply
- Click OK
- Close Internet Explorer
Configuring Outlook Express
- Double-click on the Outlook Express icon
on the Desktop or in the Start menu
- If you're prompted to connect, click the Work
Offline button, then click on the Hide button
- If you're asked for a Display Name:
- When asked for a display name, enter your
real name. This is the name people will see when they receive
email from you.
- Click Next
- In the Email address: box, type in
the your email address in the form of username@pennswoods.net
- Click Next
- The screen will say My incoming mail server
is a POP3 server
- In the Incoming mail server (POP3) name:
box, type in mail.pennswoods.net
- In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) name:
box, type in mail.pennswoods.net
- Click Next
- In the Account name: box, type in your
Pennswoods.net account name
- In the Password: box, type in your
password
- Click Next
- Click Finish
- If the main Outlook Express screen appears:
- Click on Tools at the top of the screen
- Click on Accounts
- Click on the Mail tab
- If other accounts are present, do you use
them? If not, or if you're not sure about the accounts listed
here, it's probably safe to Remove them
- Click on the Add button
- Click Mail
- When asked for a display name, enter your
real name. This is the name people will see when they receive
email from you.
- Click Next
- In the Email address: box, type in
the your email address in the form of username@pennswoods.net
- Click Next
- The screen will say My incoming mail server
is a POP3 server
- In the Incoming mail server (POP3) name:
box, type in mail.pennswoods.net
- In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) name:
box, type in mail.pennswoods.net
- Click Next
- In the Account name: box, type in your
Pennswoods.net account name
- In the Password: box, type in your
password
- Click Next
- Click Finish
- Click Close
- Close Outlook Express
