Updating Your Modem Drivers
Aside from the the quality of your telephone line connection, your connections speeds are determined by your modem. If you have a winmodem, one of the easiest ways to give your modem a boost is to update its drivers. Some modems may be updated with new firmware, which is digital hardware that can be reprogrammed through software programs. Some V.34 and older (33.6 Kbs or slower) modems also have firmware upgrades which will allow them to attain 56Kbps speeds. Pennswoods.net supports V.90 and 56Kflex, and all older modulation protocols for dial-up connections . X2 is not supported. If your 56K modem is not V.90 compliant your connection speed may be limited to 33.6 Kbs or lower, or may not even connect. Listed below are a few links to modem driver and firmware updates provided for popular modem manufacturers.
