Controlling Your Phone Line

The telephone line you use to dial Pennswoods.net may be controlled just as a regular connection from a telephone. Some modems may lose their connection if your line has call waiting and an incoming call is received. Dialing *70 before the number is dialed will disable call waiting for that session. If you need to reach an outside line you may need to dial 9 before you dial the destination number. These and other options may be entered into your dial-up connection.

1. Right-click on the Pennswoods icon in the Dial-Up Networking folder.
2. In the Telephone Number box, before your local dial-up number, type in the control sequence then a comma. The comma causes the modem to pause before resuming dialing.

This connection, for instance, is currently set up to disable call waiting ( *70 ) before dialing. If you needed to connect to an outside line, in another instance, you would need to enter 9, before the number.
