Disabling Autodial

Autodial is okay when everything works, but when problems arise it can be, well, counterproductive. This is how to disable it.

Windows 95/98

  • Click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop
  • Double-click on the Dial-up Networking icon
  • Click once on the Pennswoods icon
  • Click on the Connections button at the top of the screen
  • Click on Settings
  • Make sure the box next to Prompt for information before dialing is checked
  • Make sure Redial is unchecked
  • Make sure the circle next to Prompt to use Dial-Up Networking

    Windows ME
  • Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel
  • Double-click on the Dial-up Networking icon
  • Right-click on the Pennswoods icon
  • Click on Properties
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Uncheck the box next to Connect automatically
  • Click on the Dialing tab
  • Check the box next to Never dial a connection
