Accessing Newsgroups (Usenet) News - often called Usenet - is a type of massive message board: it is a forum to which users of the forum may post messages and read messages posted by other users of the forum. A newsgroup is a subdivision of Usenet. The names of newgroups are organized in a decimal-separated form much like domain names. The discussions that take place in a newsgroup and the name of the newsgroup are usually related. For example, in sci.math.symbolic people are likely to be discussing something related to the scientific aspects of symbols and mathematics. There is no predicting, however, what might be going on in alt.acme.exploding.newsgroup. Usenet may be accessed through a news reader software or through a web-based interface. Netscape Communicator and Internet Explorer have news reader software packaged with them. If you choose to access a web-based news service, just go to the webpage of the service and sign up.
