Disabling LCP and Multilink in Windows NT/2000/XP

Windows NT/2000/XP users may experience problems connecting to various websites. For some reason, disabling LCP extensions and multilink over single link fixes this problem.


Disabling LCP Extensions in Windows NT

  • Click on the Start button, go to Programs, and click Dial-Up Networking.
  • Click the phone book entry for Pennswoods in the Phonebook Entry to Dial box.
  • Click More, and then click Edit Entry And Modem Properties.
  • On the Server tab, click the Enable PPP LCP Extensions box to uncheck it, and then click Ok.

Disabling LCP Extension in 2000/XP

  • Click on the Start button, Settings, then Network and Dial-Up Connections
  • Right-click on the Pennswoods icon
  • Click on Properties button
  • Click on the Networking tab
  • Click on the Settings button
  • Uncheck the box next to Enable LCP Extensions
  • Uncheck the box next to Negotiate multi-link for single link connections
  • Click OK
  • Click OK
  • Close the Network and Dial-Up Connections window
