Here are a few errors whose symptoms are generalised
but whose causes are very specific. Categorising them in any other way
seemed unreasonable.

Outlook Express Has Problems with Mal-formed
Mail Headers
If Outlook Express Version 5.0 and
below receives an email message with a mal-formed header, it may cause
the client to crash. The mail receiving process will proceed as normal
then the client will crash with an error message of 'Program performed
an illegal operation...' The problem is this: Outlook Express crashes
before the offending message is deleted from the server, causing the
same error to occur the next time mail is checked.
The only thing that may be done to remedy
this problem is to view and delete the offending message with another
email client. Usually checking the account through some web-based
email is a quick and easy option.
