RAS Error 720
720 - No PPP control protocols configured
Use these instructions also for the error "Unable to negotiate compatible set of Network Protocols". Both of these errors indicate TCP/IP is not installed or the dial-up connectoid is not configured to use it.
- Double-click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop.
- Double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
- If you're using Windows ME, double-click on the Control Panel, then double-click on Dial-Up Networking
- Right-click on the Pennswoods icon - or whatever it happens to be named.
- Click on Properties
- Click on the Server Types - or Networking for Windows ME - tab at the top of the screen
- Under Type of Dial-Up Server:, PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98 should be selected
- At the bottom of the screen, the box next to TCP/IP should be checked. If it is not, check it.
- Click OK at the bottom of the screen
- Close the Dial-Up Networking window
- Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel
- On the Control Panel, double-click on the Network icon
- Is TCP/IP listed here in the installed components box? If not:
- Click on the Add button
- Select Protocol from the list
- Click on the Add button
- Select Microsoft from the Manufacturers list
- Select TCP/IP from the Network Protocols list
- Click OK
- TCP/IP sould now be listed in the installed components box
- Click OK at the bottom of the screen
- You may now be prompted for the Windows CD or disks. Insert the disks into the computer and click OK. If you're prompted with a file version conflict, choose not to keep the newer version of the file, or the No button. This error is caused by corrupted files on the computer.
- You may now be prompted to reboot Windows. Once you're finished rebooting, hopefully all is well.
