RAS Error 718

718 - PPP timeout.

This error indicates the dial-up server and the client are notable to authenticate over PPP during the alloted window of time. Noise on the line, communication failures, or quirks in dial-up networking software may cause this error. If the dial-up server is overloaded 718 errors may also occur, as the server may not be able to authenticate the user in time. Such a state would lead to many such errors, not just a few isolated instances.
  1. Try slowing the modem down with an init string. If authentication is failing due to malcommunication this error will appear.
  2. Remove Dial-Up Networking. After it's uninstalled, reboot and re-install it. This seems to fix those encountering this error for days.
  3. Delete the .PWL files on the computer, reboot, and try the connection again.
