RAS Error 676
676 - The line is busy.
This may be caused by an incorrect telephone number, the modem failing to negotiate a connection, or a busy signal
- Verify the telephone number is correct.
- Try calling the telephone number to verify it isn't busy. You should get a schreeching whine after a moment, this is a modem.
- Verify your modem is installed properly. (Under Windows, do a diagnostics from the modem control panel.)
- Lower the modem's modulation settings via an init string because sometimes this error is caused by:
- The modem initiates a connection to one of Pennswoods.net's modems
- The modems communicate with one another (handshake) to establish a connection
- Handshaking fails, Pennswoods.net's modem hangs up while the other modem is still attempting to handshake
- The telephone system generates a busy tone to let the modem know to hang up
- THe modem detects the busy signal, hangs up, and Dial-Up Networking displays a message saying that the line is bisy when it actually is not.
