Disabling the Internet Explorer Content Advisor

  • Click the Start button and click Run.
  • Type in regedit and select OK.
  • Now click on the little plus sign to the left of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  • Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, clicking on the plus sign at the left of these keys in this order: Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version, Policies.
  • Click on the Ratings folder.
  • In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, you'll see an icon called Key. Right-click on it and choose Delete.
  • Close the Registry Editor. You've deleted your original Content Advisor password.
  • Restart the computer and run Internet Explorer again.
  • Click View and then Internet Options (or Options for version 3.x)
  • Click on the Content tab and click on Disable. When asked for a password, don't enter anything; just click on OK. This will disable Content Advisor as there is no longer a password.

NOTES: Check out the *.pol files. I'm not quite sure what their role here is.
