How do I make the Firefox web browser work with the Web Accelerator?
Users of the Pennswoods Web Accelerator may find that Firefox isn't using the acceleration capabilities. The latest version of our Web Accelerator software should automatically detect and configure Firefox to use acceleration, but in case of problems, please use the following instructions.
For Firefox versions 1.5 and newer:
- Start Firefox by double clicking the Firefox icon on the desktop, or find it on your Start Menu.
- On the top menu, click Tools, then Options.
- If you're not there already, click the General icon on the top of the Options window.
- Click the Connection Settings button near the bottom of the window.
- Select the Manual Proxy Configuration option box.
- In the Http Proxy field, type in localhost.
- In the Port field, type in 5400.
- Click OK on the Connection Settings window, and then OK on the Options window. Firefox should now work with the Web Accelerator.
For Firefox versions older than 1.5 (1.0.7 and older)
- Start Firefox by double clicking the Firefox icon on the desktop, or find it on your Start Menu.)
- On the top menu, click Tools, then Options.
- If you're not there already, click General from the list on the left-hand side.
- Click the Connection Settings button on the right.
- Select the Manual Proxy Configuration option box.
- In the Http Proxy field, type in localhost.
- In the Port field, type in 5400.
- Make sure the Use the same proxy for all protocols option is NOT checked.
- Click OK on the Connection Settings window, and then OK on the Options window. Firefox should now work with the Web Accelerator.
